Introduction There are 5 different ways to duplicate items in Final Fantasy VII. They all involve the W-Item materia, therefore, item duplication cannot be done until obtaining this materia. The five different ways of duplicating: 1. Normal 2. Morph 3. Throw 4. Steal 5. Stolen From Also covered and explained is how to get two different stacks of the same battle item, thereby allowing for a total of 198 of any single battle item. Before doing any duplication, set the ATB on 'Wait' or 'Recommended'. _______________________________________________________________________________ 2. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) Q: What items can be duplicated? A: Every single item in the game, except items which cannot be sold to a vendor. Which leads to the quesion..... Q: What items cannot be duplicated? A: Any item which cannot be sold to a vendor and can't be obtained during battle. Buster Sword, Silver Barrette, Seraph Comb, Battery, Save Crystal. Q: Which techniques can duplicate which items? A: Normal Duplication - Battle Items Morph Duplication - Items which can be Morphed from an Enemy Throw Duplication - Weapons Steal Duplication - Items which can be stolen from enemies Stolen From Duplication - Items which can be stolen from you, meaning every item in the game except those which can't be sold to vendors Q: What would be the easiest way to duplicate Sources? A: The easiest way to duplicate sources is using the Morph technique. These are the places to go: Speed and Luck Sources - Sunken Gelnika hallway, from Poodlers and Bad Raps Magic Sources - Battle Square from 8 Eyes using the Solo Character Morph technique Power Sources - Mt. Nibel, from Screamers Guard Sources - Mideel dirt area, from Spirals Mind Sources - Can only be done using the Solo Enemy Morph Dupe against Serpents in the Sunken Gelnika Cargo Room, meaning PC, PSN, and emulator players without CD's are up a creek. They can be duplicated using the Stolen from Party technique, but it is much more tedious unless you are willing to give up every possible item in your inventory. Q: When is the earliest time in the game that I can duplicate items? A: You can do all of these techniques after obtaining the W-Item materia on disc 2. _______________________________________________________________________________ 3. Normal Duplication. This is fairly straight forward. This only works for Battle Items, i.e. only items that are able to be used in combat. Equip W-Item on any character. Steps to doing it: 1. Select W-Item. 2. Select the item you would like to duplicate. 3. Select the target of the item. 4. Select any second item. 5. DO NOT SELECT A TARGET FOR THIS SECOND ITEM. 6. Press Cancel. This will increase the item count of the first item by 1. 7. Select the same second item. 8. Press Cancel. 9. Repeat steps 7 and 8 until you have the desired number of item. _______________________________________________________________________________ 4. Morph Duplication. Morph duplication allows for the duplication of any item in the game which can be morphed from an enemy, although for anyone playing the PC or PSN version, or through an emulator, this technique is limited to enemies who appear with at least one other enemy in battle. Using the Solo Enemy Morph technique requires a physical console, because it involves ejecting the CD or opening the lid. Using Yuffie and the Conformer is recommended for this, since due to the mechanics of the formula on her Ultimate Weapon, it will not get the 1/8th damage effect normally applied when using Morph. 4.1 Normal Morph Duplication This can only be done when there is more than one enemy in the battle. Video Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gEkyz11l5s credit to BrutalAI for this one Requirements: - A character equipped with W-Item. - A different character equipped with Morph. - None of the item you would like to duplicate in your inventory. - A battle item you only have 1 of in the top slot of your item inventory. This item will be gone forever. Steps to doing it: 1. The two characters with W-Item and Morph have full ATB bars. 2. Select Morph. 3. Select the enemy who Morphs into the item you would like to duplicate. 4. With the other character, Select W-Item. 5. Select the item you only have 1 of. 6. Select the target of this item. 7. DO NOT DO ANYTHING AT THIS TIME! Wait until the first character Morphs the enemy into the item. As you can see, this will put that item into the empty slot at the top of your item list. 8. Select any second battle item. 9. DO NOT SELECT A TARGET FOR THIS SECOND ITEM. 10. Press Cancel. This will increase the item which was just Morphed by 1. 11. Select the second item. 12. Press Cancel. 13. Repeat steps 11 and 12 until you have the desired number of item. *NOTE* Steps 4, 5, and 6 must be done before you get the item from the enemy being Morphed. 4.2 Solo Character Morph Duplication This is how you do the Morph Duplication when there is only one party member. Useful for the Battle Arena, or if you are doing a Solo Character challenge. Video Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0_oDkIAMmQ Requirements: - W-Item, Morph linked to Counter. - None of the item you would like to duplicate in your inventory. - A battle item you only have 1 of in the top slot of your item inventory. This item will be gone forever. Steps to doing it: 1. Select W-Item. 2. Select the item you only have 1 of. 3. Select the target of this item. 4. DO NOT DO ANYTHING AT THIS TIME! Wait until the enemy who morphs into the item you would like to duplicate dies from Counter-Morph. 5. Select any second battle item. 6. DO NOT SELECT A TARGET FOR THIS SECOND ITEM. 7. Press Cancel. This will increase the item which was just Morphed by 1. 8. Select the second item. 9. Press Cancel. 10. Repeat steps 11 and 12 until you have the desired number of item. 4.3 Solo Enemy Morph Duplication This can only be done if you are using actual CD's, since it involves ejecting the CD or opening the lid of the console. Specifically useful for duplicating Mind Sources from Serpent's, who only appear in battles solo. This is done exactly like the Normal Morph Duplication, but you eject or open the lid after you have gotten the item from Morph, but before the spoils screen appears, effectively letting you continue to duplicate even though there are no enemies left. Video Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=da3XnBAv2g4 Requirements: - Playing the game using CD's. - A character equipped with W-Item. 8. Eject the CD or open the lid of the console. 9. Select any second battle item. 10. DO NOT SELECT A TARGET FOR THIS SECOND ITEM. 11. Press Cancel. This will increase the item which was just Morphed by 1. 12. Select the second item. 13. Press Cancel. 13. Repeat steps 11 and 12 until you have the desired number of item. 14. Insert the CD or close the lid of the console. *NOTE* Steps 4, 5, and 6 must be done before you get the item from the enemy being Morphed. _______________________________________________________________________________ 5. Throw Duplication This can be used to duplicate weapons. It involves all three party members. It is done more easily during a long attack animation, and the damage of the weapon being thrown cannot kill the last or only enemy on screen. Video Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9dnF3FYreQ credit to BrutalAI for this Requirements: - A character equipped with Throw, and low enough HP to be KO'ed by another party member in one Attack. - A different character equipped with W-Item - Only one of the weapon you would like to duplicate in your inventory, in the second spot of your item list. - A battle item you only have 1 of in the top slot of your item inventory. This item will be gone forever. Steps to doing it: 1. All three party members have full ATB bars. 2. During a long attack animation, have the party member without W-Item or Throw attack the party member with Throw. 3. Select Throw, the Weapon you would like to duplicate, and an enemy to throw it at. 4. Select W-Item. 5. Select the item you only have 1 of. 6. Select the target of this item. 7. DO NOT DO ANYTHING AT THIS TIME! Wait until the character with Throw is KO'ed by your party member. 8. Select any second battle item. 9. DO NOT SELECT A TARGET FOR THIS SECOND ITEM. 10. Press Cancel. This will increase the item which was just selected to be thrown by 1. 11. Select the second item. 12. Press Cancel. 13. Repeat steps 11 and 12 until you have the desired number of item. *NOTE* Steps 2 through 6 must be done before the character with Throw is KO'ed. _______________________________________________________________________________ 6. Stealing from Enemy Duplication The Stealing from Enemy technique allows for duplication of any item which can be stolen from an enemy. It can be made easier if you put Cover on your thief and link multiple Steals to Counter. Video Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8iGZg2vv6s Requirements: - A character with Steal - A different Character with W-Item. - None of the item you would like to duplicate in your inventory. - A battle item you only have 1 of in the top slot of your item inventory. This item will be gone forever. Steps to doing it: 1. The characters who carry Steal and W-Item have full ATB bars. 2. Select Steal against the enemy who carries the item you would like to duplicate. 3. Select W-Item. 4. Select the item you only have 1 of. 5. Select the target of this item. 6. DO NOT DO ANYTHING AT THIS TIME! Wait until you receive the stolen item. 7. Select any second battle item. 8. DO NOT SELECT A TARGET FOR THIS SECOND ITEM. 9. Press Cancel. This will increase the item which was just stolen by 1. 10. Select the second item. 11. Press Cancel. 12. Repeat steps 10 and 11 until you have the desired number of item. *NOTE* Steps 3, 4, and 5 must be done before you receive the stolen item. _______________________________________________________________________________ 7. Stolen from Party Duplication This technique allows for duplication of any item which cannot be sold to a vendor. It requires the item you would like to duplicate to be stolen from you. If you got rid of every item possible from your inventory except the one you would like to duplicate, then you could guarantee it to be stolen from you. This is hardly practical, though, and the more items you have in your inventory, the more luck reliant this technique becomes. Video Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X51gUq5tCW8 Requirements: - A Character with W-Item - At least one of the item you would like to duplicate in your inventory. - A battle item you only have 1 of in the top slot of your item inventory. This item will be gone forever. - An enemy who can steal from your inventory. Steps to doing it: 1. Two characters have full ATB bars. 2. Wait for the enemy to steal the item you would like to duplicate. 3. With the character that does not have W-Item, select the enemy who just stole the item and choose an attack which will KO it. 4. Select W-Item. 5. Select the item you only have 1 of. 6. Select the target of this item. 7. DO NOT DO ANYTHING AT THIS TIME! Wait until you receive the stolen item back from the enemy after your party member KO's it. 8. Select any second battle item. 9. DO NOT SELECT A TARGET FOR THIS SECOND ITEM. 10. Press Cancel. This will increase the item which you just got back by 1. 11. Select the second item. 12. Press Cancel. 13. Repeat steps 11 and 12 until you have the desired number of item. *NOTE* Steps 4, 5, and 6 must be done before you receive the stolen item back. ______________________________________________________________________________ 8. Two Stacks of Battle Items This technique allows you to carry two different stacks of the same battle item, effectively allowing you to carry 198 of every battle item. This can be done using Morph, Steal, or by being stolen from. Video Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3U4egoAj9OM Requirements: - A character with Steal - A different Character with W-Item. - An empty slot at the top of your item list. - Only 1 of the item you would like to duplicate in the second slot of your item list. Steps to doing it: 1. Select Steal against the enemy who carries the item you would like to duplicate. 2. Select W-Item. 3. Select the item you would like to duplicate, which you should only have 1 of. 4. Select a target for that item. 5. DO NOT DO ANYTHING AT THIS TIME! Wait until you receive the stolen item. 6. Select any second battle item. 7. DO NOT SELECT A TARGET FOR THIS SECOND ITEM. 8. Press Cancel. This will increase the first item you chose by 1, and you will now have two different stacks of the same battle item. 9. Select the second item. 10. Press Cancel. 11. Repeat steps 9 and 10 until you have the desired number of item. *NOTE* Steps 2, 3, and 4 must be done before you receive the stolen item. _______________________________________________________________________________ 9. Credits, Version Information, Who Can Host, Copyright BrutalAI from the GameFAQs Final Fantasy VII message board discovered these techniques and disclosed them to the public in early 2009, except for the normal W-Item technique which has been well known since 1997. All credit goes to him for their discovery. I came up with the Solo Character Morph, and someone on the GameFAQs board whom I don't recall came up with the Solo Enemy Morph. All the video examples were made by me, except where noted. Much thanks and respect to TFergusson and cloud VS sephiroth (Absolute Steve), this game wouldn't be the same without your Guides and Walkthrough. Shout outs to shadow666 and phiefer3 from the message boards for helping people play this game. List of Websites that can host this FAQ: - www.gamefaqs.com Version 1.0 - July 1, 2009.
