The Brink

I am so very bored

This is how bored I am.

Yes, this is tangentially Covid-related.

I'm working six days a week, 9-10 hours a day. So far I've managed to avoid being stabbed by fools looking for toilet paper.

We're getting ready to move to a bi-weekly schedule, but still required to make our hours (salary pay)... They plan to let us use as much lwop as we need, lol. Better than no pay like a lot of people I know, I guess. Life as a government contractor.

I am quite lucky; I was scheduled to start a few months of schooling this Monday (more or less when the shit hit the fan here in Canada) so now I just get to chill at home and do my schoolwork without having to go into some bullshit class. Also, with all the crazy panic buying going on, I figured out where to do all my shopping... Asian markets! The shelves are bulging, the produce is fresh, and the place is almost empty so they've got fire-sale prices. Ahh racism, my unlikely ally in these trying times...

Yeah, I'm fortunate enough to be able to work at home. It's been an adjustment, though. My working habits here leave something to be desired.

Are you still in Burnaby, Lethal? I'm in Coquitlam now. The T&T shelves are packed, it's been great.

Now we're changing again, and I'm working 4 am to noon, lol. Gas stations down here have what I need. These people lived their whole lives in the city and rely on "super" stores for everything...

I'm actually in Coquitlam now too, we should hang out! Haha, no...

I'd actually been driving over to Triple A in Burnaby because that was my regular Asian market but yeah, I bet T&T's are a veritable cornucopia too. I'll probably start hitting them up for meats at least since Triple A mostly carries pigs feet and octopus and the like >_>

Heh. Maybe in a year or two when all this blows over. I'm just over near Mundy Park, myself.

Pigs feet make for great soup stock! I wouldn't knock it. But yeahh, usually I'd just go to T&T for the kimchi, but given the meat selection at Superstore last time I went... Hopefully the supply chains catch up soon.

That actually sounds like a nice shift for not having to deal with people too much.

And it changed 5 minutes before the end of my shift yesterday... Back to bi-weekly, lmao.

Crazy, yeah I live right near there too. Hmm, pigs feet stock, I'll have to try that sometime... Did you cook professionally at some point? That doesn't sound like intel that the average civilian would have.

This is a real blast from the past seeing SRG.

I'm considered "essential" so I'm going into work every day. Not too much has changed for me yet

Incidentally, so are the government-run cannabis stores around here. Whew...

The only place I ever went down here was my office anyway, so I'm not any more bored than usual. Now instead of wasting 2 hours a day driving, I just work longer. At least it's saving a little money on gas and wear on my car.

The toilet paper situation here is still no joke though. Can't get paper towel, kleenex, or pretty much any cleaning product either. The cereal and canned food shelves are still annihilated too, and for the last two weeks, eggs and milk have been impossible too.

What people didn't buy though? Easter candy. It's everywhere.

Where I'm at in Tampa, groceries have been pretty easy to get for a few weeks now. Granted, I'm stuck using AngelSoft... Might be better off just using my hand to wipe.

We ordered toilet paper off of some weird website that is supposed to deliver in mid May. My wife is on a bamboo toilet paper kick so we have about 50 rolls right now I think

In terms of groceries, apart from when the lockdown first happened you can get most of the stuff you normally would. You have to stand in line and wait to get in though so that's something.

Eggs are still pretty scarce, but we've actually been ordering food from a local farm and having it delivered so we're good getting eggs and stuff.

Speaking of Tampa, any idea when they'll open the beaches down there? I'm still hoping I can go down for July 4th.

We mainly go down in redington shores. So by Clearwater and St Pete

No word, yet. The mayor of St Pete and Tampa are against the governor in every way, so it's been a pain in the ass.

Virus cases WILL spike again. It's the nature of it. Distancing didn't kill or stop anything, it just delayed it so the hospitals weren't overwhelemed. I just hope people don't freak out about it and try to close everything again...

Still can't get any toilet paper today. I'm down to 2 rolls and some weird leftovers that the prior owners left behind when I bought this place.

Yeah. So my wife isn't comfortable going down to Tampa for the 4th. Maybe we'll go in August now. Hopefully they don't close things down though

The spike in cases isn't worth the risk given that it's like a 2 day trip now that the airline changed our flight to be arriving late at night and leaving before the sun comes up.
